J-Train decleats the same poor ISU defender twice on the same play

J-Train anihalates Tarell Brown in '06

The way to read the game-by-game charts below is pretty easy. The first number is the down, the number that follows the dash (-) is the yardage we need to convert, the third number is the number of yards J-Train picked up, and the last bit describes the result (first down, touch down, two point conversion, or a double dash for a non-conversion).

Keep in mind that these tallies include every rushing attempt he made on 3rd down, 4th down, or in a 2-point conversion situation, regardless of the yardage needed to convert. In the capsules under the charts I break down his percentages in short yardage situations (4 yards or less), which are much more impressive and much more relavent.

It was Jorvorskie's freshman season. He was actually 7-of-13 in short yardage situations (4 yards or less) which bumps his conversion percentage up to 54%.

J-Train's sophomore season was when he came out and became a legend. Not only did his 19 rushing TDs tie the single season school record but he was unstoppable when we needed him to convert for us. In short yardage situations he was 24-of-25 for an incredible 96% conversion percentage.

His only two missed conversions came in the Army game, one on a 3rd & 7 where he picked up 6 yards and the other came when a defender came through completely unblocked.

He converted every time he touched the ball in our last 10 games, including every Big 12 games (15-of-15 in Big 12 play).

I don't know if anyone outside of the team will know what really happened during J-Train's senior season. We know that Coach Sherman moved him to fullback and asked him to get down to 265 lbs (from just over 300) and that J-Train did lose weight (got down to 280) but didn't hit that 265 mark.

He didn't see much action at the beginning of the season and was slowly worked back into the offense until the K-State game. We lined J-Train up in a 3rd and goal from the 2 yard line and he picked up 1 yard on the first carry and got hit behind the LOS on the second. It was the only time I can remember throughout his entire career that he was stopped on back-to-back carries. In the post game press conference Coach Sherman said he made the wrong decision to go for it again with that play but I thought that K-State just did a good job of breaking through the OL to get Jorvorskie before he could move forward.

Another reason I think his numbers were down was because we didn't have a true fullback blocking for him because Chris Alexander graduated last season. Nick LaMantia, linebacker-turned-fullback and our official 12th Man, played the part when Jorvorskie lined up at tailback.
